Blood Sweat and Gears, aka BSG, celebrates 22 years on June 27, 2020. From humble beginnings, BSG has grown into the North Carolina High Country’s premier cycling event. Starting and finishing in historic Valle Crucis, home of the Mast General Store, BSG offers incredibly scenic views, epic climbs and some of the best cycling that North Carolina has to offer.
Thank you for participating in the 2019 Blood Sweat and Gears charity bicycle ride. As ride director, it was my honor to welcome you to the ride this year.
This year’s ride, like many BSG rides before, was successful in many ways. We introduced a new, updated website. We introduced new routes that so far seem to be a hit. Safe, scenic and challenging are the keywords that keep popping up in comments. Our legendary volunteers and ride support once again made every rider feel welcomed and safe. New safety signage along the route was a constant reminder to ride responsibly resulting in zero crash related rescue calls. And the post ride food and entertainment were awesome as always.
We also had our challenges. Flooding in the Valle Crucis area just 13 days before BSG and strong seasonal storms kept us on our toes. Changes in course conditions happened daily. And while our committee leaders and volunteers overcame them all, I’m most impressed with the patience and understanding that you, the riders, showed.
We are already working on next year. It won’t be long before we announce new information and details about our Winter Warmer Project and the 22nd Annual Blood Sweat and Gears. In the meantime, remember you can still purchase the 2019 BSG Custom Jersey or Kit and keep an eye on the Blood Sweat and Gears Facebook page
for pictures, videos and inspirational stories from this year.
BSG is the primary fundraising event for BSG Events, Inc. All proceeds from the ride go towards the programs and services that BSG Events, Inc. supports in the High Country. Thank you on behalf of the BSG Events, Inc. Board, the Ride Planning Committee, our volunteers and the charities supported by BSG Events for riding.
Blood Sweat and Gears is planned and executed by BSG Events, Inc., a fundraising non-profit. Net proceeds from the ride are donated to local charities in the High Country.
