Poor Road Conditions and Unusually Busy Traffic in Todd Force Long Route Change
We have been monitoring the road surface conditions on Railroad Grade Road through Todd, NC for several weeks. The narrow road received a topcoat of very loose gravel without a bonding agent and remains a safety hazard for bicycles. In addition to poor road surface conditions, the Todd General Store, which was sold recently, is holding an auction to sell off its existing inventory. The auction is scheduled for 10am, the same time our first riders would be rolling through Todd. It's expected to draw a large number of outsiders to the area. The combined conditions, poor road surface and greater than normal vehicle traffic, require that we change the long route for the safety of all riders. The route will use Hwy 194 as it has in the past and mileage will remain effectively the same. All maps have been updated to reflect the change.

Bulldog Rd. Paving Project Requires Route Changes for 2019 BSG
The BSG Ride Planning Committee has been monitoring the road surface conditions on Bulldog Rd. after a recent resurfacing project was completed. Based on those observations, the committee concluded the existing conditions on Bulldog Rd. are not acceptable and the expectations that conditions will improve by the 22nd are low.
The decision was made to re-route both rides for safety reasons. Safety is always our priority for all riders and volunteers. Keeping as much of the current route intact while minimizing the impact on our partners and volunteers were also key considerations. With limited connectivity, the distances for both rides have changed. The long route comes in at 95 miles while the short route comes in at 45 miles. Both routes will have less elevation but remain challenging. The Ride Planning Committee remains confident that even with these last-minute changes, riders will enjoy these new routes for 2019.
